2nd Annual Writing for Liberation

Virtual Teach-In

The Black August Virtual Reading was wonderful and inspiring! I’m so grateful to have been invited to participate, and I absolutely loved witnessing the creative work that everyone shared. What I appreciated the most about the event was the fact that even though everyone tuned in from a different city/state, we were all able to come together and share such a special moment. I can’t wait to hear about more events in the future!

Our teach-in took place throughout the month of August 2026. August is a significant period in Black history, recognized as Black August, honoring Black political prisoners, revolutionary resistance, and the ongoing fight against systemic oppression.

The Black Writers for Peace and Social Justice Writing for Liberation Virtual Teach-In gathers Black writers through workshops, craft talks, podcast interviews, and readings, asking the question: "In a world where the voices of minoritized populations are systematically being muted, how do Black writers continue their work to write from spaces of truth and power?"
